Boliden is a large European mining operation which relies heavily on technology to track ore and waste as it leaves the mines. “It’s important for us to know what material is going where,” says Finn Oman, a senior geologist and mine planner at Boliden. “It’s not just a tool to keep waste out of the system. We need to understand how the ore is being handled so the mill can prepare the concentrator and be ready for it.”
In 2020, Finn started searching the globe for an ore tracking system upgrade. ‘We were spending too much time creating separate reports from the data we were getting from our previous ore tracking system. It was very labour intensive, and we needed something more. The TopVu software was a big selling point for us because the reporting is built right into it.’
Finn is also impressed with the performance of the TopVu OTS. “Previously, we were having frequent connectivity issues with our readers that no one could ever explain. In the 18 months since we installed the TopVu system, we haven’t had a connectivity issue with even one of the readers.” The TopVu OTS “is a complete ore tracking system.”
